If you make Civil War camp items, you're familiar with the often tedious process of cutting stencils by hand. That is, assuming you can find a stencil to reproduce or cut out to begin with. The hard tack stencils easily take me 1-2 hours or a couple episodes of some Ken Burn's Civil War. The smaller ones I can print in card stock which cuts easier and lasts longer. The big ones are done on large format printer paper and if I'm lucky I get two uses out of them. I tried calling all the print shops all over my local area and the only one who even considered making reusable stencils for me...no lie...wanted to charge $500 for these two stencils! Disheartened, I went back to doing it the old way for several more months. Then, one day, I had an epiphany: check out Etsy! Going over a few listings I found Stencil Revolution. I emailed them my files and I got a very friendly response right away. We emailed over a couple of days due to the time difference of Eastern and Pacific time and with shipping, they only cost about $50! I got them in the mail today and they are so much more crisp than anything I could do with an Xacto plus with them being made out of heavy duty material, are easily washable, and infinitely reusable. On top of all of that I got them in less than a week! I'll be having them make up a stencil for my new Sharps ammo box design here shortly. If you're looking for your own reusable stencils, I highly recommend Stencil Revolution. Click the link to visit their website.

The stencils files from our and Hammler's website are actual size. Just let the printer know.

Hi, my production company is working on a Civil War film called "The Private." We are needing to make several supply boxes as props. Time is crunch and we probably won't be able to cut out the stencils by hand. Googling all this, I came across your post here. I was thrilled to see that there's a company out there that would make the stencils. However, I just went to their website and from what I can tell, they no longer make "custom" stencils. I know your original post is now a few years old. But wanted to check and see if you knew if that's correct that they aren't making them any longer, or if you know of any other place that will be willing to make them into affordable stencils. On a side note, it astonishes me that someone within the reenacting community, especially sutlers, do not have these pre-made stencils widely available now as reusable stencils. Maybe they do, but I can't find them. Looks like it would be something very much wanted by living historians. Thanks for your help!
