Battle of Everson Farm

The Battle of Everson farm provided the best battle and campsite in years. Oak trees, shade, and expansive, rolling terrain made for an incredible battle scenarios. We were able to utilize a full array of tactics and maneuvers, too. It was great to be able to scout trails and pop out from the tree lines into the enemy's flanks and rear. Perhaps most exciting was the presence of a deer stand that allowed for a heavy team to sharpshoot from a tree in actual battle for the first time. On our last day, we had the opportunity to spend quality drill time and battle alongside our friends in the 20th Maine. Battles were fantastic and the Confederates provided for some great game play resulting in the capture of prisoners on both days. The second battle of our last day was a sight to see. We opened as screeners for the 14th Brooklyn who, when on line as skirmishers, covered our withdraw back through the woods and trails to surprise the rear flank of the Confederate army. Pvt. Christiansen and 1st Sgt. Koepp stayed near the 14th to feint that the Berdans were still near and in front of the enemy. Thanks to a dispatch delivered by the cavalry, the 20th Maine was able to link up with us after a long and spirited run around most of the battlefield. Once linked up, they made it through the woods to support us. Maine soldiers kept up a strong wall of fire and contested every inch of ground.
Company D fought brilliantly, covering an incredible amount of ground and utilizing cover and concealment like we rarely have the opportunity to. The strenuous battles combined with high heat took a toll but due to years of experience and proactive self-care, the heat didn't take any Sharpshooter out of battle.
The camp site was unusually pleasant with lots of shade and room to spread out. It was so close to the 1st Sgt's home that he even brought out the shebang shack. We are all excited for the future of this event site and its potential.
Lastly, for those who have been wondering, we brainstormed a long list of upcoming video ideas. Stay tuned and be sure to keep an eye on the Company D YouTube channel.
